Enjoy a year filled with a variety of themes that travel through history and Bruce County with the ‘Museum in a Box’. For 10 months throughout 2021 your little explorers can travel through time and the BCM&CC’s exhibits from the comforts of your home with hands-on activity kits.

Each kit includes challenges, videos, crafts, and games and provides enough supplies for two children. The activities are geared towards ages 5 to 12; younger children will require assistance from an adult or older sibling but will have just as much fun.

Just in time for Family Day the first box will be delivered in February, the theme is “Family Fun!” Creative games that families have been playing for ages and supplies to create your own game for your family to cherish!

Are you ready for March Break? Grab your own “Museum Magic” box, check out some cool illusions and mysteries from history, while learning some tricks of your own! This kit also includes admission to a virtual magic show from your home!

In April, “Let’s get Down to Earth” where you can get in touch with your roots and use the activities in this box to get ready for Earth Day while learning a little more about the history of taking care of our planet.

“Spring into Action” in May as nature awakens with the rebirth of trees, flowers and plants. Enjoy this box that is full of active things you can do outside on any kind of May day!

Then in June dig for bones like a real paleontologist, with Dino-time! If you don’t happen to find a dinosaur in your backyard, don’t worry, you can build your own!

It’s All Hands-on Deck! in July with a nautical box, where you can create and try your hand at and learn all kinds of skills from Bruce County’s rich marine heritage along the Bruce Coast.

In August Alien Invaders will teach you about species on the move throughout history, create (and then destroy) a natural food web, and see what you can do to help fight off invasive species in Bruce County.

Fall in Bruce County means harvest time, fairs, and fun! In October receive Fall for the Fair and try your hand at some fairly finicky fair challenges from the past – maybe you can win the blue ribbon!

Learn about the history of secret codes and connections to Bruce County’s military history in November with Crack the Code. Build and play with super-smart technology in this coding themed box.

Then celebrate the holidays in December with ‘Chrismystery’! Use the video clues and the puzzles in the box to travel through history and solve a mystery!

“The ‘Museum in Box’ program evolved out of the popular ‘Camp in a Box’ that was offered during the 2020 summer,” says Mike Schwindt, Education Coordinator. “We feel this program will bring some fun, education and special family time to families in Bruce County and beyond.”

Each ‘Museum in a Box’ offers a different education theme that ties back to Bruce County … your little explorers will have so much fun they won’t even know they’re learning!  ‘Museum in a Box’ is proudly presented by Bruce Power. Order a subscription for the whole year, 10 boxes or pick from your favourite themes and order individually by the first of each month.
