Chantry Island Tours cancelled for 2021

The Marine Heritage Society’s Board of Directors met on Monday, May 10th, to review the upcoming season.

With the safety of volunteers and guests being paramount, the Board made the decision that it will not be feasible to run tours to Chantry Island this summer in the current Covid-19 environment.

“We will continue to do maintenance work to our facilities in anticipation of the 2022 season,” says Board Chair Eric Tolton. “We will explore alternative activities that can be safely conducted in our current environment. We are saddened to have to cancel the many reservations that have already been made for excursions to Chantry Island, but we are happy to start making reservations for next year.”

The Tours will resume in 2022, which will be the group’s 20th season of taking guests to the island. Each tour includes the boat ride to and from Chantry Island, a tour of the fully restored and refurnished Keeper’s Cottage, the rebuilt boat house and the climb of the 107 steps to the lantern room atop the 162 year old Chantry Island Lighthouse tower.

“We regret the inconvenience this will cause to those who have already booked their tours but look forward to seeing you in 2022,” adds Tolton.
