The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of Maria Canton to the Business Services Manager position.
“The Business Services Manager is a critical position for the Museum’s operation. Maria’s work as the Development Officer combined with her community stakeholder engagement has prepared her well to take on this new role,” says Cathy McGirr, Director, Museum & Cultural Services.
Canton joined the BCM&CC as the Revenue Development Officer in June of 2018, coming from the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound where she was Theatre Manager for five years. Through her role at the Museum as Development Officer, she successfully accomplished several initiatives to further develop the revenue portfolio for the Museum.
Prior to the Roxy Theatre, Canton spent 15 years working in the newspaper business for the Owen Sound Sun Times, National Post, Calgary Herald and in the Canadian Arctic for Northern News Services.
Canton holds a Master of Journalism & Communications degree from Carleton University, a Journalism Diploma from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, a Post Graduate Masters Fine Arts Studies from University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta.
“I have enjoyed my experience working at the Museum and for Bruce County for the past two and a half years,” says Maria Canton, Business Services Manager. “I look forward to taking on this new role with both Museum staff and the communities we serve.”
