Province investing in Public Safety, Emergency Services and Community Infrastructure in Bruce County

The provincial government is continuing to strengthen public safety, emergency response services, and community living infrastructure in Bruce County through the province’s Mental Health Supports for Public Safety Personnel program (MHS4PSP) with the Land Ambulance Service Grant, Fire Protection Grant, and the Partner Facility Renewal Grant.

“Our government is proud to deliver meaningful investments that strengthen emergency services, protect the health and safety of our firefighters and paramedics, and support vital community organizations like Community Living Walkerton and District,” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce. “From mental health supports for public safety personnel, to modernizing fire halls and ensuring reliable paramedic services, these investments demonstrate our commitment to keeping families in Bruce County safe while enhancing the infrastructure that serves our communities every day.”

As part of its plan to protect Ontario and keep communities safe, the Ontario government announced it is investing $32 million to expand access to specialized mental health services for first responders and public safety personnel.

Mental Health Supports for Public Safety Personnel (MHS4PSP) Program:  The County of Bruce will receive $25,000 through the Mental Health Supports for Public Safety Personnel (MHS4PSP) program to help protect the mental health and well-being of frontline emergency personnel.

Land Ambulance Service Grant:  In addition, the County of Bruce will receive $7,957,930 through the Land Ambulance Service Grant to support the delivery of timely and reliable paramedic services across the region.

Fire Protection Grant:  The Municipality of Brockton will receive $36,223.56 through the Fire Protection Grant to enhance firefighter safety and emergency response capacity. Funding will also support the construction of an addition to the Elmwood Fire Hall, including a dedicated decontamination laundry room and proper shower facilities. The grant will also fund the purchase of a Solo Rescue SCBA decontamination washer for the Walkerton Fire Hall, helping to reduce firefighters’ exposure to harmful contaminants.  Earlier in 2025, the government announced that it is doubling the investment in the Fire Protection Grant—from $10 million in its first year to $20 million in year two.

Partner Facility Renewal Grant:  Community Living Walkerton and District will receive $116,900 to complete critical infrastructure improvements that enhance safety, accessibility and reliability for residents. Funding will support the replacement of the roof and eavestrough, replacing flooring in a bathroom and bedroom, replacing the flooring in the main entrance and bedrooms, installation of commercial flooring in the kitchen and dining room, installation of two generators, an accessibility ramp, replacing the floor on the main level, installation of a furnace and air purification system, and repairing foundation leaks.

These investments reflect Ontario’s ongoing commitment to supporting frontline responders, strengthening local emergency services, and ensuring community organizations have safe, modern facilities to serve residents.

Community agencies deliver vital programs related to anti-human trafficking, autism, child welfare, children’s mental health, developmental services, child development, Indigenous health and wellness, interpreter and intervenor services, violence against women, and youth justice services.
