In Chesley, on August 31, a seven-gamer was held on the greens. There were eight ends per game and rinks were pre-drawn by Drawmaster Eric Weatherall.
There were 20 teams of pairs from as far away as Dresden, Seaforth, Simcoe and Milton who came to Chesley to bowl against the local teams from Hanover, Saugeen Shores, Walkerton, Mount Forest and Chesley using only two bowls per player.
A scrumptious lunch of scalloped potatoes, ham, coleslaw, corn, tomatoes, pickles and dinner rolls was served with white cake and fruit compote for dessert after four games.
A special scoring system was developed by the Drawmaster whereby the ends counted as one full point, while shots scored only counted a 1/4 point.
Winners of the day were Ken and Bob Bester (Hanover) with 37 ends and 6.5 wins. (Ties only counted 1/2 point each). Glenda Courtice (Saugeen Shores) paired up with Sandy Weatherall (Chesley) for 35 ends and 4 wins to get 2nd place.
Third spot went to Rick Wood and Murray Bennewies (Seaforth) with 34 ends and 6 wins. Dianne Trask (Milton) and Steve Schuknecht (Chesley) took 4th place with 33 ends and 5.5 wins. In 5th place – the Walkerton team of Bill Lehman and Duffy O’Brecht had 32 ends in 5 wins followed closely by Steve and Louise St. Pierre (Dresden) with 31 ends in 5 wins.
