OLG makes payments to host municipalities

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) issued a second quarter (July 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021) today (Oct. 21) a non-tax gaming revenue payment of $309,990 to the Town of Hanover for hosting Gateway Casinos – Hanover.

In addition, OLG issued a second quarter (July 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021) non-tax gaming revenue payment of $597,879 to the Township of Centre Wellington for hosting Elements Casino – Grand River.

Since December 2003, Centre Wellington has received more than $35 million in non-tax gaming revenue while Hanover has received, since 2001, almost $20 million.

Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance says that, “Host communities are once again benefiting from local employment and the financial proceeds that support vital services through Municipality Contribution Agreements.”

“Our government is pleased that land-based casinos have re-opened safely and are contributing to our provincial economy again,” added Bill Walker, Member of Provincial Parliament for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.

OLG makes payments to host municipalities under the Municipality Contribution Agreements, using a prescribed formula consistently applied across all sites in Ontario that is based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site or sites.

Under the province’s reopening framework, with rigorous public health and workplace safety measures in place, gaming sites were able to resume operations beginning on July 16, 2021.  Casino re-opening dates were determined by each service provider in consultation with OLG, depending on their readiness and ability to operate under the mandatory restrictions.  All gaming sites in Ontario resumed operations by August 16, 2021.

The reopening of gaming sites will afford OLG’s service providers the opportunity to advance their ambitious development plans that will support the long-term vibrancy and excitement of the casino experience in Ontario for years to come.

To date, host municipalities have received more than $1.76 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
