CFUW Kincardine hosting renowned speaker and author

The Kincardine Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) will be hosting guest speaker, Dr. Andrea O’Reilly, on Monday, June 18th at the Kincardine District Secondary School (KDSS) auditorium at 7:00 p.m.

O’Reilly, PhD, is Professor in the School of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at York University.

She is also founder and director of The Motherhood Initiative for Research and Community Involvement (1997-), founder and editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Motherhood Initiative (1999-) and founder and editor of Demeter Press (2006), the first feminist press on mothering, reproduction, sexuality and family:

In addition, O’Reilly is editor and author of 18 books including ‘Mothers, Mothering and Motherhood across Cultural Differences: A Reader (2014) and ‘Academic Motherhood in a Post Second Wave Context’: Challenges, Strategies, Possibilities’ (2012).

She is also editor of the first encyclopedia on Motherhood (2010) and a recipient of the CAUT Sarah Shorten Award for outstanding achievements in the promotion of the advancement of women in Canadian universities and colleges. 

O’Reilly is also a two-time recipient of York University’s “Professor of the Year Award” for teaching excellence and, in 2015, was the first inductee into the Museum of Motherhood Hall of Fame. She and her partner are the parents of three fabulous and feminist adult children.

The Journal of the Association for Research on Mothering, is the first and remains the only scholarly journal on motherhood. Both ARM and its journal are recognized worldwide as the leading research centre/journal on Motherhood.

O’Reilly, a dynamic and passionate speaker who can capture an audience, will be speaking on the ‘Changing role of Motherhood’ and the public is  invited to attend.  Admission is by donation.
