Bridge and culvert repairs underway

Driving across Hwy. 21, few realize that work is being carried out beneath them.

At the historic Rail Trail lookout of the Hurricane Hazel train wreck in Southampton, work has been carried out to reinforce the under-highway culvert.  According to a supervisor, the structure was compromised primarily by winter road salt and had to be reinforced with new re-bar and cement.

“It will be like new when we’re finished,” said the Supervisor, ‘Tim’ of Miller Concrete.  “We have many bridges in the region that need re-working and from here we will move to a bridge on Concession 8.  Repairing is usually much less expensive than completely replacing a bridge.”
