The strength of the collective good is diversity, equity and inclusion. For the labour movement ensuring that diversity, equity and inclusion is never compromised is cornerstone item. As the voice of labour in our region the Grey Bruce Labour Council has issued a statement to reinforce this.
Kevin Smith, President of the Grey Bruce Labour Council, notes that, “This is the second public statement of a similar nature released by the council. The council issued a joint statement with Kincardine Pride in 2023 and the proliferation of those amplifying the voices and sentiments of hatred and discrimination caused the council to reiterate in the strongest terms comprehensive support of diversity, equity and inclusion, all equity seeking people and racialized persons.”
“The Lake Huron shoreline and communities all the way around Georgian Bay and inland in this region can all say they have some exposure to this growing hatred and intolerance that has crept into our lives,” says Grey Bruce Labour Council VP for Grey County, Chris Stephen.
“Ensuring that people understand that they are not alone in pushing back against intolerance is a very important aspect of safe communities. Understanding that the risk of suicide in the 2SLGBTQ+ community is greatly reduced when others are prepared to stand together to make communities safe for all people is but one example of how important it is stand united against those that disseminate hatred and bigotry,” says Grey Bruce Labour Council VP for Bruce County, Dave Trumble.
Again, and with the level of bigotry increasing, the council has taken a stand with people threatened by those who would challenge, in too many cases, their very right to exist.
The Grey Bruce Labour Council has been the community voice of working people for seven decades.
